Genus Atherinason


Summary:
A monotypic genus endemic to south-eastern Australian waters. Mouth large and very protrusible; distal end of premaxilla extending past vertical through anterior margin of orbit; upper jaw covering lower jaw when mouth closed; 16-20 gill rakers in lower limb of first gill arch; caudal peduncle slender.
