Genus Girella


Summary:

This genus comprises about 16 species which are variously distributed in the Pacific, eastern Indian and eastern Atlantic Ocean. Five species occur in Australia, with four species found on southern coasts. They have a small mouth, not reaching below eye, each jaw with an outer row of incisors bordering a broad band of minute teeth, scales covering most of cheeks and the bases of the dorsal and anal fins, a very large and broadly forked caudal fin and small pectoral fins, the upper rays longest.
