Genus Leptobrama


Summary:
The genus Leptobrama is characterized by having a short head; a large mouth, with the posterior tip of the upper jaw extending beyond the level of the posterior margin of the eye; a single dorsal fin with four closely set spines, originating posterior to the level of the anal-fin origin; anal fin long, with three spines; pectoral fin short, not reaching to the level of the anus; ctenoid scales small, firmly adherent (Kimura et al., 2016).
The genus comprises two species found in coastal and estuarine waters of northern Australia and New Guinea.
