Distribution

North of Dampier Archipelago, WA, east of Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and off Cape Grenville to off Stradbroke Island, QLD. Elsewhere the species is widespread in deeper waters of the tropical, Indo-west Pacific, from East Africa to the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, to southern Taiwan.
Inhabits steep rocky or coral drop-offs and deeper non-reef areas.
