Summary:
Three dark brown stripes along body often breaking up towards rear, with rows of white spots between, two brown lines on pectoral fin base. Eye with golden iris and fine black and gold spoke-like pattern. E. schroederi (Schroeder’s Combtooth Blenny) has much finer stripes and no white spots between first and second stripe. E. aequalis (Fourline Combtooth Blenny) has an extra stripe along body, and lacks rows of spots and spoke pattern on eye.
Distinctive species, easily identified by the thin dark lines and bright white spots.

Distribution

Hibernia Reef, Western Australia, and Cartier Reef, Timor Sea, and the  northern Great Barrier Reef off Cape York, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, west Pacific: Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Inhabits coastal fringing reefs and lagoons where individuals or small groups perch on coral outcrops and reef crests in depths to 10 m.
