Summary:
A perchlet with a short narrow dark stripe in front of the eye, a faint dusky stripe from behind the eye across the upper side of the body, and a small faint dusky spot at the midbase of the caudal fin (stripe and spot more evident on smaller individuals).

Distribution

Endemic to south Western Australia, from off Margaret River to north of the Houtman Abrolhos.

Features

Dorsal fin (segmented rays) 13-14; Pectoral fin 15-17, middle rays branched; Gill rakers (lower limb) 11-12; Lateral-line complete, 31-36 tubed scales; Vertebrae 10-16; no antrorse spines on ventral margin of preopercle; no scales on maxilla.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Gerald R. Allen of the Western Australian Museum who provided all of the type specimens for the description. Dr. Allen was aware that this species was undescribed when he referred his material to the author.
