Known in Australian waters from central New South Wales, to the Great Australian Bight, South Australia, including off eastern and western Tasmania. |
Features |
Dorsal fin 35-39; Anal fin 20-24; Gill rakers 18-21; Vertebrae 37-41. Gill rakers with several long bristles on distal half of raker, and one or two long bristles extending from the tip of each raker; dorsal pharyngeal papillae - fleshy tabs; short conical pharyngeal teeth short, conical. |
Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin meridionalis, meaning "southern", in reference to the austral distribution of the species. |
