Summary:

A yellow butterflyfish with dark scales margins that appear cross-hatched or lattice-like, a black bar through the eye, a blue forehead, a dark submarginal band on the soft dorsal fin and a broad black bar through the middle of the caudal fin.

Some individuals have a black spot below the dorsal fin spines. Juveniles have a dark spot on the soft dorsal fin.

Distribution	Recorded in Australia from Scott Reef, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef to Moreton Bay, Queensland. Found elsewhere in the tropical, east-Indo-west-central Pacific. Often seen in pairs on sheltered coastal reefs, sometimes in areas with reduced visibility.
Feeding	Feeds on coral polyps, anemones and polychaete worms.
