Summary:
A dark bluish-green trumpeter becoming silvery below, with many fine brownish lines and small blue dots forming stripes along the back and sides. The Real Bastard Trumpeter has a pointed snout with a protrusible mouth.

Distribution |
Found in eastern and southern Tasmania. The species occurs elsewhere in subantarctic and temperate waters of New Zealand, Chile and the South Indian Ocean. Forms large fast-moving schools around rocky reefs, often in surge channels, large tidal pools or above deep drop-offs. |

Etymology |
