Summary:
A duckbill with indistinct dusky bars along the body, black scale margins, a black dorsal fin except for a white basal third, and a broad dusky margin on the caudal fin.

Distribution

Northwest Shelf, to south of Cartier Reef in the Timor Sea, Western Australia, and east of Dunk Island, Queensland, to off Kiama, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific.

Features

Pectoral fin 22-25; Lateral line scales 47-57; Scales between lateral line and dorsal-fin origin 2-4; Scales between lateral line and anal-fin origin 4-6. 
Head depressed anteriorly; lower jaw projecting beyond upper; lateral line descending gradually; lower jaw projecting beyond upper; maxilla with well-developed tentacle at posterior tip.
