Eyebrow Goby, Oxyurichthys ophthalmonema (Bleeker 1857)


Summary:
A pale greyish-brown goby with about five indistinct dusky blotches along the midsides, scales on nape and back with dusky margins, a dusky blotch below the eye, and a dusky crescent-shaped marking on the pectoral-fin base.

Distribution

Northern Australia, from Darwin, Northern Territory, to Townsville, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west Pacific from Guam to Indonesia and Vietnam, and the Indian Ocean India to East and South Africa and Madagascar.
Inhabits mangroves, estuaries, river mouths, lagoons and bays with muddy sand flats and dead coral rubble.rocky areas.

Dorsal fin VI + I,12; Anal fin I,13; Pectoral fin 21-22; Lateral scale rows 51-54.
Distinct tentacle present on dorsal surface of eye.

Gobius ophthalmonema Bleeker 1857,  Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië 12: 208. Type locality: Ternate, Indonesia.
