Summary:
A pinkish coffinfish covered in irregular yellowish spots, with simple to divided (bifurcated) spinules covering the entire body, and a relatively long 'fishing rod' (illicium) bearing a small greenish or pinkish lure that retracts into a shallow pale depression between the eyes.

Distribution

Off Dunk Island, Queensland, to off the Bay of Fires, Tasmania, and west to the Great Australian Bight, South Australia. Inhabits continental shelf and slope waters at depths to about 1000 metres. 

Etymology

The species is named for the F.I.S. Endeavour, the Australian Commonwealth Fisheries survey vessel from which the type specimen was collected.
