Summary:
A green to bluish-green scad becoming silvery to white below, with a diffuse dusky blotch not bordered above by a white spot on the margin of the gill cover, dorsal, anal, and caudal fins dusky yellow, often with white tips on the anterior rays of second dorsal and anal fins, dark tips often on the lobes of the caudal fin, and white pelvic fins. Juveniles have seven dark bands along the body.
The supramaxilla is relatively small and lacks an anterior spine-like extension.

Distribution

Endemic to northern Australia, from Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia, to Southport, southern Queensland. Elsewhere the species reportedly occurs in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia. The species is pelagic in inshore waters.

Features

Dorsal fin VII + I,24-26; Anal fin II + I,20-222; Scutes 9-13; Gill rakers (incl rudiments)  7-11 + 21-26; Vertebrae 24. 
Snout bluntly rounded. adipose eyelid well developed on posterior half of the eye only; upper jaw narrowly rounded posteriorly with a single row of teeth; supramaxilla relatively small without an anterior spine-like extension. Straight part of lateral line completely covered by scutes.

Feeding

Feeds mostly on small invertebrates, including microscopic crustaceans and molluscs

Fisheries

Mostly taken on hook and line.
