Summary:
A small cardinalfish with a large darkish spot on the upper part of the gill cover, a small dark spot behind the eye just above the lateral line, and a narrow dark diagonal bar on the cheek.

Distribution

Capricorn Group, southern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, to Sydney, New South Wales, and the Lord Howe Island region in the Tasman Sea.

Etymology

The specific name chrysurus is from the Greek 'chrusos' meaning gold, and 'oura' meaning tail.
