Summary:
A butterflyfish with five broad black bands on the head, body and tail, body yellowish above fading to silvery below, caudal fin with a broad yellow margin, pelvic fins mostly black with a white spine and anterior rays.

Lord Howe Butterflyfish usually occur on deeper rocky reefs with coral cover, and are rarely seen by divers.

Distribution

Moreton Bay, Queensland, to Montague Island, New South Wales, and at Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island in the Tasman Sea. Also in northern New Zealand and The Chesterfield Islands, New Caledonia.

Inhabits rocky reefs with coral cover in depths of 10-150 m, although rarely seen in shallow waters.

Feeding

Carnivore - feeds on benthic invertebrates.
