Summary:
A bluish-green trevally becoming silver below, with many small golden spots on the upper two thirds of the body, dark blotches along the lateral line, dusky yellow soft dorsal, anal, pectoral and caudal fins, anterior anal-fin rays white, and white pelvic fins. Juvenile (smaller than 100-120 mm LCF) are uniformly silvery-grey, with a few golden spots.

Distribution

Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia, and Scott Reef, and Ashmore and Cartier Islands, around the tropical north to off the Clarence River, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species is common and widespread in the tropical, Indo-west Pacific. Inhabits rocky and coral reef areas to depths of 100 m, also seagrass beds, often in small to large schools.

Features

Dorsal fin VIII+I,25-29; Anal fin II+I,22-24; Gill rakers 6-7 + 17-18 = 24-25; Scutes weak, 14-20.
Naked area on breast generally extends approximately half way to pectoral-fin base; curved lateral line gently to moderately arched.

Colour

Juvenile (smaller than 100-120 mm LCF) uniformly silvery-grey, with a few golden spots. Larger individuals bluish-green above, silver below, with many yellow to golden spots on upper two thirds of body, dark blotches along the lateral line, the black spot on operculum inconspicuous or absent; soft dorsal and anal fins dusky yellow, anterior anal-fin rays white; pectoral and caudal fins dusky yellow; pelvic fins white. 

Feeding

Feeds on invertebrates and fishes.
