Distribution	East of Maria Island, Tasmania, eastwards into the southern Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the temperate, Atlantic-Indo-west Pacific.
Features	Dorsal fin 12-13; Anal fin 13; Vertebrae 42; Branchiostegal rays 4; Pyloric caeca 8-10. Greatest body depth 18-23% SL; swin bladder roundish swim bladder; no radial pattern on operculum; gill rakers absent from inner surface of epibranchial on first gill arch. Dorsal-fin base longer than anal-fin base; pectoral fins extending far beyond dorsal-fin origin.
