Summary:
A pinkish to brownish-yellow seabat with a reddish underside, symmetrical dark reticulations across the upper side, an orange pectoral fin crossed by a narrow white bar, two brown bars on the caudal fin.

Distribution

Western Australia and the Northern Territory; also the territories of Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-West Pacific: South Africa, Seychelles and Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia.
Inhabits muddy substrates on continental shelves and upper slopes.

Features

Dorsal fin 4; Anal fin 4; Pectoral fin 13; Pelvic fin I, 5; Caudal fin 9.
Disc distinctly rounded; dorsal surface covered with medium-sized, simple or bifurcated tubercles; ventral surface completely naked or with many scattered granular spinules; teeth on tongue forming two paddle-shaped patches, each with a long inner prolongation.

Halieutaea indica Annandale & Jenkins 1910, Memoirs of the Indian Museum 3(1): 19, Pl. 2 (fig. 4). Type locality: Bay of Bengal, off Orissa coast, India.
