Summary:
A very small cryptic pale grey to whitish goby with three broad brown saddles on the upper sides, the first and darkest below the first dorsal fin, cheek and gill cover a mottled dark brown, and a whitish streak on the middle pectoral-fin rays.

Distribution |
Known from Flynn Reef on the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and New Britain, Papua New Guinea. Inhabits gentle reef slopes with mixed patches of live coral and mixed sandy and gravelly coral-rubble areas at depths of about 10–20 m. |

Dorsal fin VI + I, 9-10; Anal fin I, 8-9; Pectoral fin 16-19; Pelvic fin I, 5; Caudal fin 12 (branched), 17 (segmented), 4-6 procurrent rays dorsally and ventrally; Gill rakers 0+6 (poorly developed); Vertebrae 27; Longitudinal scales 25-28; Transverse scales 6-7; Predorsal scales 5-7; Opercular scales 7-9; Cheek scales 8-13. Third dorsal-fin spine sometimes with short, filamentous extension; all segmented dorsal- and anal-fin rays branched; all pectoral fin rays branched except uppermost and lowermost; each pelvic fin ray branched twice except fifth ray with three branch points; pelvic-fin membrane fully developed, frenum relatively low and weakly developed. Scales ctenoid on body, except cycloid anteroventrally on breast, belly, and prepelvic area; head and nape scaled. |
Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin pisinnus (= small, little), in reference to the exceptionally small maximum size of this species in comparison to congeners. |
