Distribution

Off Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, depth 200 m. Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Inod-west Pacific.

Remarks

Pontinus rhodochrous is thought to be conspecific with Pontinus tentacularis and possibly Pontinus macrocephalus (Motomura & Matsuura 2016).

Etymology

Sebastes rhodochrous Günther 1872, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1871 (pt 3) (art. 1): 659. Type locality: Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
