Genus Stigmatopora


Summary:

A small genus with four species - three of which are endemic to southern Australia, and the other occurs in New Zealand.

Body very elongate, trunk shallow; head aligned with body; snout long; STR and STAR continuous; ITR and ITAR continuous; LTR not confluent with LTAR; eggs brooded in enclosed brood pouch on underside of tail just behind anal fin; tail very slender and flexible, almost prehensile; dorsal fin with relatively elongate base; anal fin tiny, below middle of dorsal fin; caudal fin absent; pectoral fins present.
