Genus Barathronus


Summary:
A small group of gelatinous cusks with the following combination of characters: elongate body; united dorsal, caudal and anal fins; loose, transparent, scaleless skin; deep-set eyes; an oblique mouth with toothed palatines and 2–11 fangs on the vomer; a short pectoral-fin peduncle, as long as high; 20–35 long rakers on the first gill arch; 62–85 dorsal-fin rays, 9-10 caudal-fin rays, 46–73 anal-fin rays and 21–27 pectoral-fin rays; precaudal vertebrae 31–39,  total vertebrae 67–89; ripe males with penis length up to 15% SL, paired claspers developed or not.
