Genus Filicampus


Summary:

Genus with single species, confined to subtropical Australia. Body very elongate, trunk moderately shallow; head aligned with body; snout moderately long, median dorsal snout ridge low and entire; opercles finely striate in adults, with complete or incomplete ridge angled upward toward gill opening in young; STR and STAR discontinuous near rear of dorsal‑fin base; ITR and ITAR discontinuous; LTR not confluent with LTAR; eggs brooded in enclosed brood pouch on underside of trunk; tail not prehensile; ridges on head and body without spines or prominent denticulations; dorsal fin of moderate length, closer to head than tip of tail; anal fin tiny, below centre of dorsal fin; caudal fin very small, rounded; pectoral fins present.
