Summary:

The Cypriniformes is one of the largest orders of fishes. It includes six families and about 3,268 species (Nelson 2006). The group is predominantly freshwater and found in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. All species in Australia have been introduced. Relationships are discussed by Siebert (1987) and Fink & Fink (1996).
