Summary:
A pale brown to greyish-green chromis with black tips on the caudal-fin lobes, a black blotch on the outer part of the anal fin, black tips on the dorsal-fin spines, a black vertical bar through the eye and a white iris.

Distribution

Offshore reefs of north Western Australia, Ashmore Reef in the Timor Sea, and the far northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, to the Solitary Islands, New South Wales, and reefs in the Coral Sea; also Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific.
Small groups inhabit coral rich areas on coastal, lagoon and outer reefs, usually aggregating close to shelter at depths to 20 m.

Dorsal fin XII, 12-13; Anal fin 11-12; pectoral fin 17-19; Lateral-line scales 15-18; Gill rakers 27-30.
Body depth 1.9-2.2 in SL.

Feeding

Feeds on zooplankton.

Similar Species

Weber's Puller, Chromis weberi, has a dark bar on the cheek and a narrow dark margin on the gill cover.

Etymology

The specific name lepidolepis is from the Latin lepido- (= scaly) and lepis (= scale) in reference to the 'scaly scales' on the nape and the back that have small auxiliary scales at their bases.
