Summary:
A plain brownish to greyish damselfish with darker scale margins, and a narrow blue margin on the dorsal and anal fins. Juveniles are mostly yellow with a bluish-grey back, iridescent blue lines from the snout to the back, a blue-ringed ocellus on the rear of the dorsal fin, and blue lines across the iris.

Distribution

Rottnest Island, Western Australia, to Mapoon, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. 
Inhabits shallow inshore reefs, mostly in rocky areas, and is one of the most common damselfishes along the Western Australian coast.

Features

Dorsal fin XIV, 13-14; Anal fin II, 13-14.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of ichthyologist Robert Miller, who collected type specimen.
