Summary:
A silvery pomfret fading to dark grey to brown or black after capture, with a broad flattened area on the head above the large eyes that are positioned near the top of the head.

Distribution

Off central New South Wales to the South Tasman Rise, Tasmania. The species is circumglobal with an antitropical distribution, and has been recorded west of south Western Australia, so likely occurs in oceanic waters off Australian's south coast.
