Summary:
A variably coloured yellow to dark brown shrimpgoby with diffuse bars on the side, saddles across the back, a pair of dark brown streaks on the cheek above the rear corner of the mouth, blue spots on the head, a short bar across the upper part of the pectoral-fin base, and blue streaks on the anal and caudal fins.

Distribution

Recorded in Australia from Cassini Island, WA, and the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Elsewhere, the species occurs in the East-Indo-west Pacific from the Andaman Sea to Papua New Guinea and Palau, north to Yaeyama Islands and throughout the East Indian region. Shares burrows with alpheid shrimps in near shore sandy-silt areas in 12-30 m.

Features

Dorsal fin VII, 10; Anal fin I, 9[ Pectoral fin 16-18; Longitudinal scales 75-82.
Greatest body depth 4.1-5.2 in SL; pelvic fins united, frenum present; caudal fin rounded, longer than head length; head without scales.

Colour

Variable in colour ranging from yellow to mainly dark brown; diffuse bars on side; a pair of large, distinct dark-brown streaks above rear corner of the mouth and a second pair on gill cover; blue streaks on pelvic, anal and caudal fins. The yellow or yellowish brown form with similar head markings (usually fainter), blue spots on the head, pale saddles across top of head and back; blue streaks on yellow pelvic and anal fins. The dark forms have a mainly dark brown body with several pale saddles across the back, and similar head markings to the pale and yellow forms. All forms have short bar across upper pectoral-fin base.
