Distribution

East of Barrow Island, Western Australia, off Newcastle, NSW, and south of TAS; temperate, circumglobal.

Etymology

Winteria is named for Fritz Winter, the scientific illustrator on the Valdivia Expedition (1888-1899) to subantarctic seas (The Etyfish Project). The specific name telescopa refers to the large telescopic eyes of this species.
