Summary:
A bluish-grey trevally becoming silvery white below, with rectangular blackish blotches along the back below the soft dorsal fin, a yellowish tip on the second dorsal fin and on the upper lobe of the tail, a black spot on the anal fin, and a black patch on the head below the eye extending to the snout. During the breeding season, males develop black pectoral, pelvic and anal fins.
This species was previously known as Carangoides dinema.

Distribution

Townsville to Southport, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific. Individuals or small schools inhabits coastal waters, often along steep drop-offs.

Features

Dorsal fin VIII +I,17-19; Anal fin II+I,15-17; Gill rakers 7–9+16–19 (including rudiments).
Body elongate, dorsal head profile strongly convex, almost straight to nape. 
Scales separating naked area on breast from naked pectoral base. Curved part of lateral line longer than straight part; junction of curved and straight parts below vertical from between 10th or 12th rays of second dorsal fin; straight part of lateral line with 0-6 scales followed by 23-30 scutes; scutes present on caudal peduncle.
Elongate filament extending from second dorsal-fin ray; shorter filament extending from anal fin. 

Feeding

Feeds on small fishes and benthic crustaceans.

Fisheries

Taken with bottom trawls, gillnets, and hook and line in parts of its range.

Etymology

The specific name dinema is from the Latin di- (= two) and nema (= thread, yarn), presumably in reference to the elongate filament extending from the soft dorsal and the shorter filament on the anal fin.
