Distribution

Wyndham, Western Australia, to the mouth of the East Alligator River, Northern Terrotry, and the Gulf of Carpentaria. Elsewhere the species occurs in New Guinea.  Inhabits shallow coastal reefs.

Cheroscorpaena tridactyla Mees 1964, Zoologische Mededelingen (Leiden) 40(1): 1-4 fig. 1 [1, pl. 1]. Type data: Holotype RMNH 24787, Frederik Hendrik Island, New Guinea.
