Longhead Grunt, Pomadasys auritus (Cuvier 1830)

Summary:

A silvery to pale burnished gold grunt with well defined blackish spots on the spinous dorsal fin, and a dark spot on the tip of each scale on the back and upper sides.

Distribution	Known in Australia from a single specimen off Newcastle, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in the west Pacific.
Features	Dorsal fin XII, 14; Anal fin III, 7. Body depth 3.2 times in SL; head large, upper profile convex; gill cover and angle of preopercle elongated as convex rounded lobe; gill cover extending to above 1/3 to 1/2 of pectoral fins. Mouth small, maxilla reaching to eye, pores 2 and a median pit on chin.
