Summary:

This species was discovered relatively recently in small coastal streams in the wet tropics of north Queensland. It has a distinctive black ocellus ("eyespot") on the rear of the first dorsal fin, and a thick and slightly extended upper jaw.

The species is amphidromous, meaning that adults inhabit coastal freshwater streams, and the species has an estuarine or marine larval phase,

Distribution

Recently discovered in coastal streams in northeast Queensland. Elsewhere, the species is widespread in the Indo-west-central Pacific, and is locally common in some areas.
