Summary:
A pale bluish-grey grubfish speckled with dark markings along the back, a broad white wavy midlateral stripe with a brown stripe and vertically-elongate reddish blotches below, a row of dark brown to black dashes along lower part of red blotches, a white streak on the caudal fin, and dark bar from eye to below the cheek.

Distribution

Endemic to eastern Australia, from Townsville, Queensland, to at least Sydney, New South Wales. Inhabits sandy areas adjacent to reefs.

Similar Species

Differs from the Peppered Grubfish, Parapercis xanthozona, and the Spothead Grubfish, P. clathrata, in having a dark diagonal bar from the eye to below the cheek. The Whitestreak Grubfish also differs from P. clathrata in lacking a spot behind eye of males.
