Genus Pegasus
Summary:
A genus of seamoths with three species found in Australian waters. Pegasus differs from Eurypegasus, the other genus in the family, in having more tail rings, 11 to 14 (vs. 8 or rarely 9 tail rings in Eurypegasus).
Body with four pairs of dorsolateral bony plates, and five pairs of ventrolateral body plates; tail encircled by 11–14 bony rings; eyes visible from above; no deep pits on the dorsal surface of head.
