Genus Spectrunculus

A genus of giant cusk-eels with the following combination of characters. Head short, more than twice in preanal length in adults, longer in juveniles. Pelvic fin placed below preopercle. Eye shorter than snout. Long rakers on anterior gill arch 7–10. Two median basibranchial tooth patches. Anterior nostril with thick, fleshy raised rim. Opercular spine strong. Dorsal-fin rays 121–148, anal-fin rays 91–112, precaudal vertebrae 19–25, pectoral-fin rays 25–31 (Uiblein et al, 2008).
