Genus Syncomistes

Summary:
A endemic Australian genus of grunters with 11 species found in northern Australia. Shelley et al. (2017) revised the genus, describing 7 new species from The Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Syncomistes is from the Greek noun for 'gatherer', in reference to the unique manner in which species harvest algae when feeding.
