Genus Hoplichthys


Summary:
A genus of scorpionfish relatives that live on the bottom in continental shelf and slope waters of the Indo-Pacific in depths of 50-1500 metres.
Species have an extremely depressed head, an elongate scaleless body with numerous spines and ridges on the dorsal surface, a row of large spiny scutes running along the midsides, and the lowermost 3-5 pectoral-fin rays free from the membrane.
