Genus Metavelifer

A monotypic genus with the single species, the Common Veilfin, Metavelifer multiradiatus, found from eastern Africa to Hawaii.

Characters include: Dorsal fin rays high, increasing in height to the very long and filamentous 6th ray, then decreasing in height to the low posterior portion of the fin; rays in anterior half of fin simple, those in posterior half branched.
