Genus Neoscopelus

A genus found worldwide except for the eastern Pacific with three described species - all found in Australian waters.
Characters: photophores present around pectoral fin, in 2-3 rows behind the pelvic fin along the ventral third of the body, and a single row inside the mouth along the side of the tongue; eye moderately large; upper jaw expanded posteriorly, reaching to or slightly beyond the posterior margin of the eye; outer jaw teeth small and villiform, inner row of jaw teeth enlarged and depressible.
