This species is known only from the holotype. taken off Lindeman Island in the Whitsunday Group, Queensland. The collector described the colour pattern as: "it was checked in life, white with grey between each square".

Distribution	Known only from off Lindeman Island, Queensland.
Features	From original description: Dorsal fin 83; Anal fin 66; Pectoral fin 7; Pelvic fin 4; Lateral line ~ 96 on ocular side, or about 117 on blind side. Body depth 2.6 in SL, head 6.5 in SL; eye 6.4 in HL, caudal fin 1.2 in HL, interorbital width about 7 in head.
Colour	From the original description: "it was checked in life, white with grey between each square".
Etymology	The specific name is from the Latin sejunctus (= separated).
Species Citation	Phyllichthys sejunctus Whitley 1935, Rec. Aust. Mus. 19(4): 237, pl.18 (fig. 2). Type locality: Fitzallen Island, Whitsunday Passage, Queensland.
