Summary:
A puffer with dark bands or blotches on the head and body, a yellow underside and belly and blue spots. Males have a dark blotch above the pectoral fin.

Colour |
Brown to dark brown above with many iridescent blue spots; three brown to dark-brown bars on each side, the first obliquely through eye to lower jaw where it merges with bar on opposite side, 2nd enveloping gill slit and pectoral-fin base and bifurcating ventrally, and 3rd just behind pectoral-fin base, bifurcating ventrally; interspaces on side pale brown to cream; underside white, ventrolateral angle lined with yellow. Fins yellow to orange, caudal duskier, lowermost rays blackish. Adult males with black to brown circular blotch above pectoral-fin base, surrounded or partly surrounded by iridescent blue line or series of spots. |
