Summary:

A garden eel with yellow to orange bands along the body, small pectoral fins and the anterior nostrils positioned on the snout tip between the restricted labial flanges.

Distribution

Occurs on reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-West Pacific, from the Maldives to Papua New Guinea, and the Philippines and north to the Ryukyu Islands, southern Japan.

Individuals or small aggregations of Splendid Garden Eels live in burrows, protruding to feed on plankton drifting in the current.
