Summary:
A blackish-brown comb-tooth blenny becoming yellowish posteriorly, with narrow, dark wavy diagonal stripes on the head, and the anal fin with a pale margin and narrow blue streaks along the centre of the fin. Females are overall dusky brown.

Distribution

Clerke Reef  to Hibernia Reef, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef in the Timor Sea, and the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, with larvae south to Swansea Channel, New South Wales. Elsewhere, the species occurs in the Indo-west-central Pacific: Red Sea, Yemen, Somalia and the islands of the western Indian Ocean, east to Tonga, and south to the Great Barrier Reef and New Caledonia.
A cryptic species found among coral and rubble on reef flats and the upper parts of seaward reefs.

Dorsal fin VI-IX, 22-24; Anal fin II, 18-20; Pectoral fin 14-16; Pelvic fin I, 2.
Dorsal and anal fins attached by membrane to upper edge of caudal fin (well beyond fin base); dorsal fin not notched between spines and rays. 

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Christian Krauss, director of the Royal Natural History Cabinet in Stuttgart.
