Distribution

Port Douglas, QLD (16º32´S) to Sydney, NSW (33º36´S). The species also occurs in New Guinea.

Feeding

I've just been looking at the Orectolobus ornatus page on Fishes of Australia (https://fishesofaustralia.net.au/home/species/1976) and note that the maximum size should be corrected. It is reported as 290 cm TL.

The maximum size of O. ornatus given by Huveneers (2006) is "at least 1017 mm TL, males mature between 796–830 mm TL, females mature between 795–864 mm TL" cf. O. halei "to at least 2060 mm TL; males mature at 1684-1819 mm TL, females mature at 1605-1871 mm TL." Last & Stevens (2009) give the maximum size of O. ornatus as 110 cm, and comment that reports of O. halei to 290 cm TL require confirmation.

Cheers,
Clinton
