Summary:
A pinkish wrasse with a yellow back interrupted by four irregular pale pinkish saddles, two bright yellow oblique bands below the eye, pinkish dorsal and anal fins becoming yellow posteriorly, and a yellow caudal fin with a pink base.

Distribution |
East of Dunk Island, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west Pacific - Myanmar, Japan, Taiwan and New Caledonia. Reportedly inhabits mixed reef and sand areas. |
Features |
Body moderately elongate, depth ~3.3 in SL; eye large, laterally-directed, high on head, slightly less in diameter than snout length; mouth small, upper jaw reaching to level of anterior half of eye, upper lip overhanging lower lip. Caudal peduncle broad, dorsal and ventral profiles distinctly concave. |
Etymology |
The species is named pacificus presumably in reference to its occurrence in the Pacific Ocean off Japan. |
