Summary:
Male Conde's Wrasse are bright red with a pale stripe along the lower rear, a white lower body, a black dorsal fin with a pale stripe along the base, and a red anal fin. Females are similar with less intense coloration. Juveniles have a black spot on the upper part of the caudal peduncle.

Distribution

Northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in West Papua, Indonesia, NE Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands. Inhabits areas of mixed coral and rubble on seaward reef slopes.

Dorsal fin XI, 9: Anal fin III, 9; Pectoral fin 15; Lateral-line scales 16-17 + 8-10; Gill rakers (total first arch) 14-17.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Bruno Condé.
