Summary:
A green to brown wrasse with a broad tapering white stripe running below the eye and along the lower part of the body, a narrow broken white stripe along the back, two rows of black spots along the midside, and small ocelli on the rear of the dorsal fin and on the tail base.

Distribution

Endemic to Western Australia, from Israelite Bay, to Exmouth Gulf. Inhabits macroalgal-covered reefs and adjacent seagrass areas, often in large schools.

Etymology

The species was named after Mr. Edward John Brownfield, Acting Chief Inspector of  Fisheries and Game, Perth.
