Summary:
A bright yellow butterflyfish, with a dark blue-edged bar through the eye, a large blue-edged black spot on back, and a pair of pale blue diagonal stripes across the lower side.

Distribution

Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef to Moreton Bay, Queensland, and the Lord Howe Province in the Tasman Sea; also at Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean. Elsewhere, the species occurs in the tropical Indo-west central Pacific from East Africa to French Polynesia.
Inhabits reef lagoons and coral-rich areas on outer reefs. Juveniles may occur amongst the branches of dense Acropora corals.

Feeding

An traded in the aquarium industry, this species feeds only on live corals, and as a result is difficult to maintain in aquaria.
