A silvery-blue silverbiddy grading to brilliant silver below, sometimes with yellowish anal and pelvic fins. Juveniles often have irregular dark vertical bars on the sides.

Widespread in the tropical Indo-Pacific, from eastern coast of Africa to Tonga and Fiji. Inhabits sandy or muddy bottoms and coral reefs. |
Features |
Meristic features: Dorsal fin IX,10; Anal fin III,7; Pectoral fin 16-17; Lateral line 47-49; Gill rakers 5-7 + 7-9. Body compressed, relatively elongated and slender; anterodorsal profile slightly convex. Second dorsal fin spine slightly elongated but not filamentous; pectoral fins long, reaching to anal-fin origin; caudal fin long, deeply forked. Five to six scales between base of 5th dorsal fin spine base and lateral line. |
